Rinan Shah, PhD

Rinan received her PhD on the Darjeeling ko Pani ko Prashna/The question of water in Darjeeling from Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment, Bengaluru. She was a Research Fellow with the National Mission on Himalayan Studies, is a contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Working Group II Sixth Assessment Report. She has published articles and reports in academic and popular spaces. She has worked as a researcher in Darjeeling, Gangtok (Sikkim), Mumbai and Tuljapur Taluk (Maharashtra), Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Nepal. She. She is from Bijanbari, West Bengal.

Rinan is a member of the national, regional and international youth water networks and has been traversing disciplinary and sectoral boundaries through her education and work. Her areas of interest encompass water, environment and development, sustainability studies, climate change, governance, policy, institutions and urbanization. She works at the intersection of research, academia and policy, making one accessible and intelligible to the other. She has been a part of conferences, consultations, conducted workshops and trainings across the world.
